Komorebi Book Co. was created by Megan Schmidt to address a need for more creative writing in schools. She has tapped into the talents of several of her family members to help her write, design, illustrate and publish her books.
As a teacher and mom she has also witnessed a need among young teenagers to gain an understanding of how their brains work and how to navigate the unique challenges they face during their adolescence. She is branching out into that field with her upcoming book, Grow.
The word Komorebi is a Japanese term for the dappled, scattered sunlight shining through the leaves of a forest and creating soft, dancing patterns of light and shadow. Megan finds that immersing herself in the beauty of a forest can inspire creative and poetic thoughts. She also feels that appreciating nature, especially among the trees, can be beneficial for improving mental wellness.
